Position Summary

Candidates must be local to Monrovia, Liberia.

This is a part-time position (20 hours per week). 

APHL is seeking a Project Coordinator with a background in project management and coordination. The scope of work will primarily focus on supporting GHS activities, with an emphasis on biosafety and biosecurity and overarching focus on strengthening Liberia’s public health and laboratory programs. The scope includes coordination with MOH biomedical engineers trained as biological safety cabinet (BSC) certifiers, laboratories and other health facilities, as necessary. This individual will liaise with CDC Liberia, MOH, and other collaborating partners in Liberia to ensure the implementation of agreed-upon strategies to enhance the public health laboratory system and improve biosafety and biosecurity. The individual will have a strong understanding of program coordination and management in Liberia with relevant experience. The candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and work with diverse groups or organizations and stakeholders, including Ministry of Health, National Public Health Reference Laboratory (NPHRL) leaders, international development organizations, APHL HQ and CDC Liberia
  • Act as the primary focal point for the laboratory, logistical and administrative management of activities in Liberia
  • Responsible for communicating with project lead and CDC regarding all project activities
  • Coordination of project activities as scheduled and planned as agreed between CDC and APHL
  • Provide logistic advice/support for trainings/ workshops/events for biosafety and biosecurity activities, including the travel arrangements of biomedical engineers for BSC certification
  • Provide administrative support for technical staff assigned by the project lead
  • Provide logistical support the procurement and delivery of needed supplies and equipment for biosafety cabinet certification
  • Prepare summary and reports on implementation progress
  • Respond to other related tasks as needed for the Cooperative Agreement
  • Other duties as requested

Employment Standards- Education and Experience

Required - 

 

  • Bachelor's degree and/or at least 3-5 years' experience in a project coordination position. Experience may be substituted for education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a team and across multiple partners.
  • Ability to travel within Liberia to work for short-term assignments that may be outside of commuting distance to home.
  • Skills in use of software including Microsoft Office Suite (MS Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom, and SharePoint)
  • Ability to compile information and write routine reports.

Preferred - 

  • Knowledge of and experience working within public health programs in Liberia
  • Bachelor of Science degree in laboratory science
  • Experience working with US Government grants and programs
  • Knowledge or experience in providing laboratory technical assistance 
  • Knowledge and experience with public health laboratory systems and have an understanding on how the public health laboratory system works in their country

  • Skilled in project management, coordination, logistics, laboratory, and administrative support.
  • Ability to maintain an approachable attitude, act consistently and provide realistic advice in the context of resources.
  • Ability to effectively engage and collaborate with partners and stakeholders with varying priorities.
  • Ability to work with stakeholders to prioritize the needs and guide the planning process.
  • Excellent organizational skills with emphasis on details.

APHL Weeks:

APHL Week is a Conference/Convention that is held at the APHL Home Office Bethesda, MD. This event is mandatory for all employees to attend. Travel and lodging will be reimbursed by APHL.

Please Note: Reimbursement for travel and lodging may not be possible for employees that are local to the APHL Home Office.
