Position Summary:
Hiring Salary Range: $47,303.86 to $52.034.24 depending on qualifications.
Development, implementation, and management of college-wide Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs and policies to ensure College compliance, in accordance with federal, state, and College rules and regulations.
Job Duties:
- Interpretation of environmental federal and state regulations, guidelines and professional literature, and act as a resource for clarification.
- Keep up to date and abreast of changes in pertinent legislation and regulations.
- Coordinates with the Director to develop, implement and maintain internal controls and procedures to across the campuses to minimize risk exposure.
- Coordinates the Environmental Health & Safety Program to establish and promote safe working conditions and practices, to develop accident prevention and safety & health programs, and to design procedures for evaluation of these programs.
- Serves as the secondary contact for, and responds to reports of leaks, spills, and any other release of potentially harmful or hazardous material.
- Identify and manage risks before an incident happens. Ensures that appropriate corrective action is taken where health and safety hazards exist.
- Develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive programs in the areas of general safety, hygiene, hazardous waste disposal, environmental health, fire safety; and building code safety standards.
- Monitor the inspection of safety equipment including fire extinguisher, automated external defibrillator, first aid kits, emergency shower/eyewash, and fire system.
- Serve as the college liaison with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and Florida Department of Health — Biomedical Waste Division (FDOH); maintaining a professional and cooperative relationship; assisting in inspections and immediate corrections to violations noted.
- Manages and participates in the development and administration for the environmental, health and safety annual budget, monitor the forecast of additional funds needed for equipment, supplies, materials, and the maintenance and certification of equipment (e.g., boilers) and structures (e.g., bleachers); implements adjustments, as necessary.
- Ensures campus—wide compliance with plans to meet regulatory requirements including College Emergency Procedures Guide, Hurricane Awareness Plan, Employee Safety & Health Program, Hazard Communication Plan, Chemical Hygiene, Bloodborne Pathogens: Exposure Control Plan, Hazardous Waste Management Plan, Biomedical Waste Operating Plan, Universal Waste Management Program, Pharmaceutical Waste Management Program, Fire Prevention Pla n, Automated External Defibrillator, First Aid Kit Program, Aerial & Scissor Lift Program, Fall Protection Safety Program, Powered—Industrial Truck Safety Program, Slips, Trips and Fall Safety Program, Woodshop Safety program, Control of Hazardous Energy: Lock Out Tag Out Program.
- Work with academic and support units in meeting EHS regulations and requirements in plans for accreditation processes.
- Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental health and safety standards. regulations, and codes through development and implementation ofon—site inspection and monitoring programs of college facilities and operations for fire safety, fire extinguishers and fire alarms, contractor compliance, and chemical, physical, and biological hazards among others.
- Maintains records on hazardous materials and wastes, training, fire safety inspections, and other documentation required by OSHA, FDEP, FDOH, other governmental agencies, or by college plans.
- Maintains plans and associated best—management—practices (BMPs) up-to—date and in compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
- Serves and oversees Campus Loss Prevention & Safety committees including agenda preparation, reports, and follow-ups.
- Provides technical information to employees and management concerning Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements, as well as safety policies, procedures, and rules.
- Coordinates and prepare the annual State Requirements of Educational Facilities (SREF) Report.
- Administers the chemical Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) tracking program including the in-house secondary container labeling system.
- Ensures, maintains all necessary permits for Environmental and Regulatory Compliance.
- Completes all regulatory reporting requirements (FDOE-SREF, FDEP-RCRA, FDOH-).
- Maintain personal training (RCRA/DOT HAZMAT, OSHA General industry) to ensure that knowledge and certifications are current.
- Maintain confidentiality— Performs incident investigations related to health and safety.
- Conducts related training and educational programs, including OSHA, training for employees to ensure employee workplace safety.
- Performs presentations on environmental compliance topics for the development of training programs on hazardous waste management.
- Administer the online safety training Vector Solutions Program.
- Coordinates the primary review of College's Emergency Procedures Guide — Flipchart. This includes emergency response and evacuation plans in fire incidents, bomb threat, hazardous material incident, natural disasters, inclement weather, infrastructure failures, and active shooter.
- Perform the primary review of College‘s Hurricane Awareness Plan.
- Ensures Life Safety Code compliance including the practice of quick and effective departmental action during emergencies and evacuations. Monitor and maintains records of fire drill exercises.
- Coordinates the preventive maintenance of first response equipment including First Aid Kits and Automated External Defibrillators (AED).
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
The position requires a bachelor’s degree and three years of prior-related experience.
