GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
This position is to serve primarily at construction sites, project sites, marinas, coastlines and in the Port & Marina office. The Project Coordinator reports directly to the Port and Marina Services Director and works with other City departments. Daily duties include assisting with departmental projects from project inception to completion, and assisting with the supervision of consultants as directed. Additionally, the position functions to develop and perform technical and administrative elements of minor construction projects, the preparation of detailed work orders, technical specifications, cost estimates and preparation of AutoCAD sketches. It will require dealing with Suppliers, Contractors, Developers, Public Utilities, as well as Federal, State, and County agency personnel and other City Departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Without Accommodations):
- Able to read, write, speak, and understand English in order to communicate with general public, coworkers and contractors.
- Able to navigate over unleveled ground, and on all levels of building throughout all phases of construction.
- Able to work a forty (40) hour work week and occasional overtime when necessary.
- Computer literate and keyboard/mouse proficient.
- Proficient in AutoCAD LT
- Able to use equipment and/or materials as specified in this job description.
- Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:
Miscellaneous office materials and equipment, personal computer utilizing software such as Microsoft Word and Excel, AutoCAD LT, camera, video camera, measuring wheels and tapes.
ENVIRONMENT:
Office work will generally be in an air-conditioned environment, field work will generally be in an environment associated with location being researched; for interior locations such as attics, crawl spaces, voids, pipe chases, machinery/equipment spaces, etc. high temperature, humidity, dampness, confined.

DUTIES/TASKS/JOBS:
- Performs project coordination for City assigned projects from inception to completion.
- Assists with management of consultant contracts including the quality control review of contract documents.
- Assists with preparation of technical reports following investigation and research of an assignment.
- Prepares daily log for each project being coordinated or work being inspected.
- Assists with preparation of monthly progress payment estimates, providing documentation to substantiate payment, for approval and submittal to Finance for payment processing.
- Prepares photographic log of construction events, field data for new projects and notable construction events when warranted or required.
- Coordinate as needed with other City of Key West Departments.
- Requires interaction with suppliers, contractors, developers, public utilities and federal/state/county/agency personnel and various city departments.
- Assists in the development of the yearly capital improvement budget.
- Develops and prepares work descriptions, technical specifications, AutoCAD drawings and sketches for a variety of projects involving buildings, docks, etc. given general project guidelines and supervision.
- Prepares construction cost estimates for minor work orders projects, and performs economic analysis for construction and or purchase alternatives.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of construction layout tools, instruments and surveyor’s level.
- Knowledge of minimum standards set by various trade, material tests, design, building, engineering and architectural associations.
- Knowledge of Florida Building Code, including coastal construction.
- Knowledge of ADA Codes is desirable
- Ability to interpret survey data.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Associates Degree in Construction Technology, construction management or associated field, or Completion of High School (Graduation or GED) with 5 year’s experience in construction, inspection, engineering or architecture field.
- Possess or ability to obtain and maintain valid Florida Driver’s license.
- Proficiency in the use of personal computer software for data/spreadsheet operations. (Excel, WORD, and AutoCAD.)
- Must pass background check to be issued and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) badge as condition of employment.
